Montclair Cooperative School Summer Chess Camp 2008

June 23 - August 1, 2008
Session I: 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m; Session II: 10:30 a.m.-12 noon.
Enrollment open to campers k-4th grade.
Tuition: $75 per weekly session


Chess is easy to learn and fun to play! The Montclair Cooperative School Summer Chess Camp is for beginners and experienced players grades k-4th. The camp will review the fundamental rules of chess. Players will learn how the pieces move, basic openings, endgame tactics and strategies, chess notation and how to use chess clocks. Each class session will include mini-lectures and chess puzzles, followed by in-class game practice between fellow students. Good sportsmanship will be emphasized throughout the course. In addition to helping campers develop their chess skills in an casual, friendly setting, campers will also be introduced to other fun, creative and critical-thinking games.

Instructors:

Steve Moctezuma teaches afterschool chess at the Montclair Cooperative School, and is a writer & photographer for New Jersey Life and Leisure (NJL&L) magazine. He has also taught chess at several public schools over the last two decades.

Roger Inglis is a physics teacher at Montclair High School and the MHS Chess Club Adviser.

Steve Moctezuma and Roger Inglis are experienced chess coaches who have co-directed several children's summer chess camps together. They are both certified United States Chess Federation tournament directors.
